Downsizing doesn’t mean sacrificing style or personality.

In fact, it can be an opportunity to truly focus on the elements that make a house feel like home.

This was our approach when working with clients who wanted to create a simple yet stylish space that reflected their love for easy, laid-back lake living.

We had the opportunity to design and build this home from the ground up, creating a perfect canvas for designing the interior. We began with a thoughtfully chosen plan, reimagined and tailored it to reflect the homeowners’ needs and style, and incorporated custom edits to make it truly one of a kind.

A Space That Flows with Nature

The first priority for this lake home was to embrace its picturesque location.

Large windows and open spaces were key to bringing in natural light and showcasing the seasonal views at every opportunity.

To complement the outdoor scenery, we used a color palette inspired by nature itself: soft blues, sandy neutrals, and earthy greens, creating a soothing and cohesive flow throughout the home.

This natural palette not only highlighted the lake's beauty but also provided the perfect backdrop for the owners’ eclectic collection of art and decor.

Balancing Simplicity and Style

The homeowners wanted a space that was simple and easy to maintain but still stylish and inviting.

Every design choice was carefully considered to reflect this balance.

Clean lines and functional layouts kept the home feeling light and uncluttered, while thoughtful details, like textured fabrics and rustic wood finishes, added warmth and personality.

We incorporated plenty of comfortable seating areas for both relaxing and entertaining, ensuring that the home would be as practical as it is beautiful.

Showcasing Eclectic Art and Treasures

One of the highlights of this project was creating a space that could showcase the homeowners’ love for collecting unique and eclectic pieces. From abstract paintings to vintage decor and one-of-a-kind sculptures, their collection added a layer of personality and storytelling to the home.

To ensure these treasures took center stage, we curated specific areas for display, such as open shelving, accent walls, and built-in nooks. The key was to let each piece shine without overwhelming the space. The mix of modern and vintage elements added a lived-in charm that made the home feel truly one-of-a-kind.

Easy and Relaxed Lake-Style Living

At its core, this project was about creating a home that embodied the laid-back lifestyle the homeowners envisioned.

Every detail—from the breezy floor plan to the cozy outdoor spaces—was designed with relaxation and connection in mind.

Whether it’s sipping coffee on the porch while watching the sunrise or hosting friends for a casual dinner, this home was built to celebrate the joys of lake living.

Final Thoughts

This lake home is a testament to how downsizing can be an opportunity to live more intentionally, surrounded by the things you love most.

By blending natural elements, simple yet stylish design, and the homeowners’ cherished treasures, we created a space that feels both personal and timeless.

This project has been a favorite source of inspiration for other clients who have inquired and used our expertise for designing their own lake homes.
